The most important display at the recent Austin Kink event was the LEGO Pride Army.
It is lovingly cared for by Oklahoma City’s Wonder Woman. I asked her for the background of how this amazing creation developed.
“I work at a local LEGO family-owned store in Oklahoma City and the owner decided he wanted to have the biggest collection of what’s called The Spencer ghost dog and all the employees were like he’s taking over the store, so we each had our own army to keep him in check.
“So when I ran for my title Mr. Route 66 Leather 2023, I made a Millennium Falcon that had 36 different pride flags on it and then I made each of our contestants into a little minifigure. And that’s where it started, and then it kind of blew up!
She took it to the Stonewall Inn, along with the minifigure parts.
“I thought, I’m just gonna bring them with me. And people started to make themselves into minifigures, and then it got popular. It took on a mind of its own and each state that I went to during my title year, I took it with me and it just kept growing and growing and growing.

“It started in 2023, and it’s been to 10 different states, 20 or more different events and more than 1,500 people. So, people can build themselves into it and thus they add it to the army at the very end.
“I count them up, I take pictures of each of them. I put it online and then I glue them together, and glue them onto the risers: each riser is from the event that it came from.
“So we’re at 15 base plates now and that’s before this one and I still haven’t added 115 people from the last event.

“The Army has the original Eagle, the Stonewall Inn, and the Carter Johnson Library Collection Annex – the LEGO Pride Army has its own annex. All of it was built by me.
“If people want to donate money, they can. For the sale of all of my LEGO-made products, the money that I get goes back into the Army, to buy more parts and to travel with it.
Wonder Woman keeps this at home when not on the road. “It’s too big for the store now!”
There is one Lego store in Edmond and another in Oklahoma City. “It’s called Bricksville. I do some of their social media and I host events and parties and just go in there and play so it’s a lot of fun.”
